Come follow my progress as I get my hands in Texas soil.

Victory in the Backyard
<<<  Building Raised Beds

When bought our house, the previous owners has started a veggie garden.  There were 3 areas for planting.  1"x6" board 12' long were held upright by metal stakes.  Unfortunately Bermuda grass found its way into the beds and took over.

In November 2011 started the prepping the new location for 20 raised beds. Ordered enough landscape fabric to put down two layers (e/w & n/s);  orders the cedar 2x8's and 4x4's from Lowe's and started picking up bags of cotton burrs.

By March of 2012 the raised beds were done and I put "seeds in the ground, well raised bed."   We filled the beds with the soil from the old raised beds (after sifting out all the grass roots) & compost that was acquired from Paul Tesch, Red Oak Landscaping  (806) 438-1296

Finally, by the end of March 2012, the beds were ready for seeds.

Planted 3 beds of potatoes -
Yukon Gold, Reds, & Russets
They look quite healthy.  In mid-May I noted flowers & flying bugs -
so I should have a nice crop of fresh potatoes.  Yum.
Planted 7 tomato plants.  Onions & garlic are planted
on the south side of the bed.
Seeds are sown in all the boxes & they are beginning to sprout.
I watered twice a day - morning & evening.
